| Mouse anti Human CD59 antibody, clone rA49B49-05/3A2, is a recombinant monoclonal antibody that recognizes CD59, also known as MAC-inhibitory protein (MAC-IP), membrane inhibitor of reactive lysis (MIRL) or protectin. CD59 is predominantly a GPI-anchored membrane protein that is widely expressed across cell and tissue types, including erythrocytes, leukocytes and various epithelial cells. It is an essential component of the innate immune system, inhibiting membrane attack complex (MAC) formation by binding the component complement proteins C8 and C9. CD59 also regulates T cell transduction by transferring a palmitate group to the linker for activation of T cells protein (LAT), causing co-localisation in lipid rafts. CD59 deficiency results in excessive complement activation and is associated with various disorders, including paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. CD59 expression is elevated in multiple cancers, contributing to tumor cell evasion of the innate immune system. |
