| Mouse anti Human CD268 / BAFF-R antibody, clone rA39B39-05/3H8, is a recombinant monoclonal antibody that recognizes CD268, also known as B cell activating factor-receptor (BAFF-R) or Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 13C. CD268 is an atypical member of the Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily, containing only a partial cysteine-rich domain for ligand binding and self-assembly. CD268 is almost exclusively expressed on B cells, with expression beginning when immature B cells develop to transitional B cells. CD268 binds the B cell activating factor of the TNF family (BAFF, CD257) and functions as a pro-survival receptor. Ligand binding to CD268 activates several downstream pathways, including canonical and non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathways, regulating protein synthesis and energy metabolism. CD268 can be used as a B cell marker and is expressed on most human peripheral B cell subsets. Homozygous deletion of CD268 in humans results in lack of B cell development, causing B-lymphopenia, agammaglobulinemia and impaired humoral immune response. |
