Non-Animal-Derived Antibodies

Antibodies for Precision and Reproducibility, Responsibly Sourced

Bio-Rad understands how important it is for you to generate accurate, reproducible, and meaningful scientific data for research and regulatory applications. Having to follow up potentially misleading results caused by nonspecific, poorly-defined antibody reagents wastes time and resources, and can lead to immense frustration.

We believe sequence defined, well-characterized, and application tested, non-animal-derived antibodies are part of the solution. Not only do they provide an opportunity for greater precision, reproducibility, and experimental flexibility, but they also contribute significantly to the reduction of animals used in science, a responsibility of the scientific community as a whole.

Your requirement for trustworthy antibodies to generate data that raises scientific standards can be coupled with safeguarding the welfare of millions of animals.

Make the Switch to Non-Animal-Derived Antibodies

We have generated thousands of non-animal-derived antibodies for our customers, and for our own research antibody catalog and diagnostic products. Our recombinant antibodies are selected from the fully synthetic, naïve Human Combinatorial Antibody Libraries (HuCAL®) using a proprietary method of phage display. Our latest innovation introduces SpyTag technology to the platform, to build antibodies from modules by protein ligation, and perform site-directed conjugation.

This innovative combination of HuCAL and SpyTag technologies brings you:

  • Rapid custom generation of highly specific Fab antibodies in as little as 8 weeks
  • Isolation of antibodies against virtually any type of antigen, for instance proteins, peptides, biologics, low immunogenic antigens, and toxins
  • Fast, flexible format conversion using SpyTag technology
  • Site-directed conjugation with consistent degree of labeling using SpyTag technology
  • Sequence defined antibody with guaranteed long term secure supply

Case Study: Sensitivity Testing without Animals

Find out how XCellR8, a contract testing laboratory leading a completely animal-free testing approach, worked with Bio-Rad to help achieve their goal to develop tests with non-animal-derived antibody reagents.

Case Study: Biosensors to Help the Chocolate Industry

Discover how Dr Jackie Barnett and Dr Joel Allainguillaume at the University of the West of England are developing innovative biosensors to detect circulating strains of cacao swollen shoot virus (CSSV). They identified a novel common antigen target on various strains of CSSV and worked with Bio-Rad to generate custom antibodies that enable different strains of the virus to be detected.

The sensors will allow broad and effective monitoring of the potentially lethal CSSV, and help revitalize West Africa's endangered cocoa industry.

How AFABILITY Is Helping Scientists Switch to Animal-Friendly Affinity-Reagents

In this interview, Dr Alison Gray explains why she founded the non-commercial organization AFABILITY, with the mission to accelerate the replacement of animals in scientific research.

The article explains how this unique organization brings together expertise to promote the benefits of animal-friendly affinity-reagents (AFAs) to individuals and organizations that want to understand the issues, and make changes to positively impact society.
