Beta-galactosidase (464 kDa) is an enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of disaccharide beta-galactoside into monosaccharides. Beta-galactosidase is commonly used to determine the success of transfections as it is a reporter protein encoded in the LacZ gene in E.coli. Bacteria expressing the gene appear blue when grown on a medium containing the substrate X-gal (galactoside and indole).
Antibodies to beta-galactosidase may be used to isolate the recombinant protein or detect its expression in cells / tissues. GFP is a naturally occurring 27 kDa protein derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria that fluoresces green when exposed to blue light. It is commonly used as a marker of gene expression and is particularly useful in fluorescence microscopy techniques.
Bio-Rad has several GFP antibodies suitable for use in a variety of applications. Our polyclonal green fluorescent protein antibody (Product Code AHP975) detects wild type, recombinant and enhanced forms of GFP and is reactive in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems. While our monoclonal green fluorescent protein antibody (Product Code OBT1643) reacts with natural GFP and its reactivity to eGFP or other mutant varieties is poor to non-existent. Newly available HuCAL® derived Fab monovalent monoclonal antibodies to GFP antibody, clone 0338 (Product Code HCA060),are suitable for ELISA assay.
Available in different quantities, clone 0338 recognizes wild type GFP, but will also detect recombinant and enhanced forms of GFP.
GST is a widely used protein fusion tag, often chosen for mammalian protein expression studies because it is inducible, and gives high-level intracellular expression of genes or gene fragments. Bio-Rad offers both polyclonal and monoclonal GST antibodies, including GST Theta-1 and Theta-2 specificities.

Luciferase is a 62 kDa enzyme from the firefly Photinus pyralis, which interacts with the pigment luciferin, producing a light emitting reaction (peak 562 nm). Luciferase is used as a reporter protein in many expression vectors transfected in a diversity of cells and organisms.
Antibodies specific to luciferase enable detection of luciferase expression in situ in transfected cells and tissues. MBP is often used in protein expression studies because it creates a stable fusion product. It allows for easy purification from bacterial extracts under mild conditions. Our MBP monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies are suitable for ELISA, immunoprecipitation and Western blot applications.
