| Rabbit anti Human BDNF antibody recognizes human brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), also known as abrineurin. BDNF is a secreted 119 amino acid ~30 kDa protein with an additional 18 amino acid signal peptide and a 110 amino acid propeptide region. BDNF is a potent neurotrophin and member of the NGF-beta family, secreted from dense core vesicles, which promotes the growth, differentiation and survival of neurons within, or directly connected to, the central nervous system (CNS). BDNF signals through binding to the high affinity receptor trkB, and also binds to the low affinity neurotrophin receptor LNGFR. BDNF is involved in the modulation of short-term synaptic function and in the formation of long-term memory (Alonso et al. 2002). BDNF is modulated during progression of Alzheimer's with an early increase and reducel levels in patients with latter stages of Alzheimer's (Laske et al. 2005). Decreased levels of BDNF are also noted in the progression of Huntington's disease (Zuccato et al. 2008) . |
