Rat anti Mouse IgM Heavy Chain Antibody, clone LO-MM-9 (MCA199) is a monoclonal antibody raised in rat that recognizes the mu heavy chain of mouse immunoglobulin M (IgM). This antibody has been validated for ELISA and IHC. Immunoglobulin M is the largest antibody isotype expressed during B cell development and the earliest secreted antibody during a primary immune response, playing a central role in humoral immunity through antigen recognition and complement activation. IgM is expressed as a membrane-bound B cell receptor on naïve and immature B cells and as a secreted form produced by plasma cells, with prominent expression in lymphoid tissues such as the spleen and bone marrow as well as in the circulation. IgM binds directly to antigens via its variable regions and engages components of the immune system including the complement protein C1q and the IgM Fc receptor (FCMR), enabling efficient pathogen neutralisation and clearance. |
