| Mouse anti RPS2 antibody recognizes 40S ribosomal protein S2, also known as Protein LLRep3 and small ribosomal subunit protein uS5. RPS2 encodes a protein that forms an extraribosomal complex with PRMT1, conserved from fission yeast to humans, and may interact with other proteins to fulfil key roles beyond the ribosome (Dionne et al. 2019). Regulatory functions of RPS2 include controlling the binding affinity between the 40S ribosome component and mRNA, and transport of 40S precursors from the nucleus to the cytoplasm (Minakhina et al. 2016). Elevated RPS2 mRNA is associated with increased cellular proliferation, and RPS2 is upregulated in a range of cancer types. RPS2 has been suggested as a potential therapeutic target in colorectal cancer because downregulation of RPS2 diminishes the viability of CRC cell lines (Grade et al. 2011). |
