Rabbit anti Human MAPK14 (pThr180/pTyr182) antibody recognizes mitogen-activated protein kinase 14, also known as MAP kinase p38 alpha, CSBP, MXI2, SAPK2A, when phosphorylated at threonine 180 and tyrosine 182. MAPK14 is a member of the p38 MAP kinase (MAPK) family, and is a stress-activated serine/threonine protein kinase involved with inflammation. MAPK14 is activated in response to extracellular stress and helps regulate transcription and translation of specific genes, allowing a cell to fine-tune its response. Within the immune system, MAPK14 promotes production of pro-inflammatory cytokines from macrophages, and helps determine the strength and duration of the inflammatory response (Alam and Scheper 2016). MAPK14 is able to regulate a diverse range of biological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, senescence, and inflammation (Wu et al. 2019). In colon cancer, MAPK14 has been shown to be required for cell proliferation and survival, and its inhibition leads to cell cycle arrest and autophagy-mediated cell death (Paillas et al. 2012). MAPK14 inhibition has been suggested as a treatment for several inflammatory diseases, including Chron's disease and rheumatoid arthritis (She et al. 2018). MAPK14 is activated by phosphorylation of threonine 180 and tyrosine 182, by several upstream kinases, in response to a wide range of extracellular stimuli such as UV B irradiation or endotoxin exposure (Brichkina et al. 2016).
