| Rabbit anti Human estrogen receptor alpha antibody recognizes estrogen receptor (ER), also known as Estradiol receptor, ESR1, NR3A1. Estrogen is a steroid hormone which, among other functions, regulates the growth, development, and physiology of the human reproductive system. Estrogen is synthesized by ovaries and by cells expressing the enzyme aromatase, and recognized by cells expressing the estrogen receptor (Hewitt and Korach 2018). Estrogen receptors are nuclear receptors which function as transcription factors, switching on expression of genes involved with reproductive organ development, bone modeling, function of the cardiovascular system, metabolism, and behaviour (Lee et al. 2012). Abnormal expression of estrogen receptors is involved with initiation and development of hormone-related cancers, and can also affect the outcome of cancer therapy. Around 70% of breast cancers express the estrogen receptor, and for these patients, antiestrogen therapy is mainstay treatment (Drago et al. 2019). Estrogen and the estrogen receptor also appear to be involved with lung carcinogenesis (Hsu et al. 2017). |
