Rabbit anti Human histone H1.3 antibody recognizes histone H1.3, also known as histone H1c, H1-3 and H1s-2. Histones are the major protein component of chromatin, with important roles in gene regulation. Histone H1 binds to linker DNA between nucleosomes, plays a role in higher-order chromatin stabilization, and is also able to fine-tune gene transcription in a locus-specific way (Brockers and Schneider, 2019). Histone variants replace canonical histones when nucleosomes are disrupted, with diverse implications for epigenetic gene regulation. Histone H1.3 is a histone variant and appears to have diverse roles in cancer. This protein has been suggested as a prognostic biomarker for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (Bauden et al. 2017). Histone H1.3 has also been identified as a repressor for the oncogene H19, contributing to the suppression of epithelial ovarian carcinogenesis (Medrzycki et al. 2015).
