Rabbit anti SOX2 antibody recognizes transcription factor SOX-2.

SOX2 is a transcription factor which is essential for embryonic development. It helps maintain the stemness of embryonic cells and various adult stem cell populations. In conjunction with other co-factors, SOX2 enables the induction of pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from terminally differentiated somatic cells. Deletion of SOX2 in the vertebrate zygote leads to early embryonic lethality and malformation of the epiblast (Schaefer and Lengerke, 2020). SOX2 expression is dysregulated in a variety of human cancers, and actively contributes to cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion and metastasis (Novak et al. 2020). In cancer, SOX2 levels appear optimized for tumor growth, where small changes in SOX2 expression would change tumor physiology. In addition, SOX2 appears to influence the response of tumor cells to oncology drugs (Wuebben and Rizzino, 2017).
