| Rabbit anti p40 (deltaNp63) antibody recognizes tumor protein 63 (TP63), also known as p40, p51 and CUSP. The transcription factor p63 belongs to the p53 gene family along with p53 and p73, which share a high level of homology and similar domain structures (Gonfloni et al. 2015). p63 is a key regulator of epidermal development. It has roles in stemness, cell cycle arrest, mobility and invasion and senescence, and multiple isoforms of p63 have diverse roles in cellular biology (Fisher et al. 2020). p63 is dysregulated in human cancers and affects chemosensitivity and chemoresistance (Melino 2011). Heterozygous mutations in the gene encoding p63 cause developmental disorders, often manifesting in skin abnormalities (Soares and Zhou 2018). The deltaNp63 isoform has been suggested to be highly specific for squamous/basal cells (Bishop et al. 2020), and it acts in a dominant negative way towards p53 (Geddert et al. 2003). |
