Rabbit anti Human cyclin B1 antibody recognizes G2/mitotic-specific cyclin-B1, also known as CCNB1. Cyclins are protein kinases required for cell cycle progression, and different cyclins execute their functions at different stages of the cell cycle by binding to cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). Cyclin B1 forms a complex with CDK1 and regulates entry into mitosis at the G2/M transition, synchronizing critical events such as nuclear envelope breakdown and centrosome separation (Wang et al. 2014). Cyclin B1 and CDK1 are present in the mitochondria of mammalian cells, and their expression increases under conditions of DNA damage (Xie et al. 2019). Overexpression of cyclin B1 in solid tumors has been associated with worse prognosis of lung cancer and esophageal cancer, but better prognosis of colorectal cancer (Ye et al. 2016). Cyclin B1 intracts with BRCA1, which when mutated, carries a substantial risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Targeting Cyclin B1 has been suggested for BRCA1-associated breast cancer therapy (Choi et al. 2018).
