| Rabbit anti CDKN2A antibody recognizes cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A, also known as CDK4I, MTS-1 and p16-INK4. CDKN2A activation prevents carcinogenesis by activating senescence and arrest of cell growth. As such, it is upregulated in cellular senescence and functions as a tumor suppressor in a range of human cancers including colorectal cancer (Xing et al. 2013). CDKN2A inhibits the cell cycle proteins cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) and CDK6. Loss of CDKN2A function can result in uncontrolled proliferation and neoplastic transformation (Shima et al. 2011). CDKN2A often undergoes DNA hypermethylation in cancer, including colon cancer. This hypermethylation at the promoter region leads to silencing of the gene encoding CDKN2A and may lead to development, progression, and invasion of colorectal cancer (Xing et al. 2013). |
