| Rabbit anti Human CDKN2A antibody recognizes cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A, also known as p16-INK4a, CDKN2, MTS1. CDKN2A is a tumor-suppressor which regulates the cell cycle and inhibits the activity of Cdk4 and Cdk6, proteins involved with cell cycle progression (Monzon et al. 1998). Activation of CDKN2A has been shown to prevent carcinogenesis by inducing cell growth arrest and senescence (Xing et al. 2013). Specifically, loss of CDKN2A is associated with melanoma, and familial carriers of CDKN2A mutations have an increased melanoma risk (Helgadottir et al. 2018). CDKN2A is also a regulator of glucose homeostasis, and may be involved with risk of type II diabetes (Pal et al. 2016). |
