| Rabbit anti CD66e antibody recognizes carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 (CEACAM5), also known as CEA. CD66e is a fetal glycoprotein which is normally expressed by mucosal cells and is not usually highly expressed after birth. However, CD66e can be expressed in a number of disease states including colorectal cancer (CRC) (Hall et al. 2019) and cancers of the breast, liver, stomach, and pancreas. It is therefore considered to be a classic tumor marker. A number of benign conditions can also lead to elevations in CD66e expression including hypothyroidism and pancreatitis, but expression level is generally lower than in cancer (Asad-Ur-Rahman and Saif 2016). High Cd66e expression in the serum of patients with cancer is related to tumor deterioration and subclinical metastases (Wan et al. 2019). |
