| Rabbit anti Human CD279 antibody recognizes programmed cell death protein 1 (PDCD1), also known as PD1. CD279 is a transmembrane protein expressed in immune cells such as T, B, and NK cells (Arasanz et al. 2017). The protein has an immunosuppressive effect during T cell activation, and regulates effector functions during acute and chronic infection, cancer and autoimmunity. In this way, CD279 plays an important role in balancing protective immunity and immunopathology (Sharpe and Pauken. 2017). Cancer immunotherapies that target CD279 aim to restore correct T cell function, allowing T cells to eliminate infections and cancer (Nguyen and Ohashi 2014). Antibodies which specifically block CD279 are approved in multiple countries for melanoma and for non-small cell lung cancer, among other cancer types (Iwai et al. 2017). |
