Rabbit anti Human calponin 1 antibody recognizes calponin 1, also known as CCN1, basic calponin, Calponin H1, smooth muscle. Calponin 1 mostly expressed in abundance in smooth muscle cells (Liu and Jin. 2016). It is a stress fiber-associated protein which co-localizes and stabilizes actin, and regulates contractility in smooth muscle (Ciuba et al. 2018). Decreased levels of calponin-1 may be involved with early hypertension via matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) (Belo et al. 2016) Calponin 1 and calponin 2 have been suggested as novel targets for treatment of hypertension (Feng et al. 2020). Calponin 1 appears to function as a tumor suppressor (Mitchell et al. 2020), and has been identified as a protective factor in melanoma, ovarian cancer, renal angiomyolipoma and colon cancer (Qiu et al. 2017). Calponin 1 can also help distinguish benign from invasive breast carcinomas (Mitchell et al. 2020).
