recognizes serine/threonine-protein kinase B-raf, also known as p94, RAFB1. BRAF is a serine-threonine kinase activated by Ras (Ascierto et al. 2012
). BRAF activates the MAP kinase / ERK signaling pathway, which results in activation of transcription factors important for cell growth, proliferation, and survival (McCain 2013
). BRAF is a "driver oncogene", frequently activated by point mutation in human cancer. For example, BRAF mutations have been identified in 50% of skin melanomas (Mackiewicz and Mackiewicz 2018
), and also occur in colorectal cancer, papillary thyroid cancer, and non-small cell lung cancers (Halpenny et al. 2017
). BRAF inhibitors vemurafenib and dabrafenib have been developed as treatments for BRAF-mutant melanoma (Fedorenko et al. 2015
