Rabbit anti Human androgen receptor antibody recognizes androgen receptor (AR), also known as Dihydrotestosterone receptor (DHTR), NR3C4. Androgen Receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that belongs to a large family of nuclear receptor proteins. Unbound Androgen Receptor resides predominately in the cytoplasm as a heteromeric complex with hsp90 and other chaperone proteins. Circulating testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which binds to androgen receptor in the cytoplasm, releasing androgen receptor from its inhibition with HSPs and allowing translocation to the nucleus, where androgen receptor can initiate transcription of its target genes (Tan et al. 2015). Androgen signaling plays a role in pathogenesis of prostate cancer, and gonadal depletion of androgens is a central therapy for advanced prostate cancer. However, progression to castration-resistant prostate cancer has led to development of therapies that directly target the androgen receptor (Dai et al. 2017) Androgen receptor also seems to play a major role in carcinogenesis of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), a very aggressive cancer type which comprises 15 to 20% of all breast cancers (Gerratana et al. 2018).
