Recombinant Human galectin-1 (Gal-1) is a member of the galectin family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins, which exhibits both intracellular and extracellular functions, and is differentially expressed by a wide range of normal and neoplastic tissues.

Galectin-1 has been implicated in several major cellular functions including proliferation, motility, haematopoietic cell differentiation, apoptosis promotion and immunoregulatory effects. The expression of Gal-1 by neuronal and glial cells correlates with neuroregeneration following injury, Gal-1 is important to primary sensory neurons and synaptic connections in the spinal cord, during embryonic development.

Reconstitution
Reconstitute with 0.5 ml distilled water. Care should be taken during reconstitution as the protein may appear as a film at the bottom of the vial. Bio-Rad recommend that the vial is gently mixed after reconstitution. For extended storage, the additiona of 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA) is recommended.
