Immunoprecipitation of alpha 2 macroglobulin from HepG2 whole cell lysate. The Input lane is 10% input; the alpha-2-macroglobulin-IP lane is the immunoprecipitation with the alpha-2-macroglobulin antibody (2.5 μg, VPA00200); the IgG-IP lane is the immunoprecipitation with Sheep polyclonal IgG(2.5 μg, PSP01). Western blot analysis was performed using alpha-2-macrogloblin antibody (1/1,000, VPA00200) followed by detection with HRP conjugated Donkey anti Sheep/Goat IgG (1/10,000, STAR88P) and visualized on the ChemiDoc MP. Sheep anti Human alpha 2 macroglobulin antibody recognizes the alpha 2 macroglobulin, also known as C3 and PZP-like alpha-2-macroglobulin domain-containing protein 5 and alpha-2-M.

Alpha 2 macroglobulin is a protease inhibitor and cytokine transporter. It inhibits many proteases, including trypsin, thrombin and collagenase. Alpha 2 macroglobulin is implicated in Alzheimer disease (AD) due to its ability to mediate the clearance and degradation of A-beta, the major component of beta-amyloid deposits (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008).
