    • Rabbit anti Rat GABA transporter 3 antibody recognises an epitope within the C-terminal region (CT) of rat GABA transporter 3, otherwise known as GAT-3, a ~67 kDa high-affinity Na+/Cl- dependent plasma membrane transporter and member of the sodium: neurotransmitter symporter (SNF) family, expressed in the cerebral cortex and retina.

GAT-3 is one of a group of proteins involved in the regulation of GABAergic synaptic neurotransmission, through the uptake and release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter of the mammalian central nervous system, which must be maintained at the correct level to ensure successful synaptic transmission. Further GABA transporter genes identified are GAT-1, GAT-2 and GAT-4, and many studies have linked neurotransmitter transporters with neurological disorders, including epilepsy and ischemia.
