Quick Links:
Native Human Myoglobin is a heme containing oxygen carrier that stores oxygen in muscles. It consists of a single polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of ~16 kDa. Sequence analysis shows that it is structurally related to haemoglobin. Following myocardial infraction myoglobin is lost from cardiac muscle cells and its presence in serum may be used as a diagnostic indicator. |
