Rabbit anti Human PDGF-B antibody recognizes platelet-derived growth factor subunit B, also known as PDGF subunit B, becaplermin, platelet-derived growth factor 2, platelet-derived growth factor beta polypeptide or proto-oncogene c-Sis. The protein encoded by the PDGFB gene is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor family. The four members of this family are mitogenic factors for cells of mesenchymal origin and are characterized by a motif of eight cysteines. PDGFB product can exist either as a homodimer (PDGF-BB) or as a heterodimer with the platelet-derived growth factor alpha polypeptide (PDGF-AB), where the dimer chains are connected by disulfide bonds. Mutations in PDGFB are associated with meningioma and Basal ganglia calcification, idiopathic, 5 (IBGC5), an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by progressive neurologic symptoms associated with brain calcifications (Keller et al. 2013). Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 22 and 17, at sites where PDGFB and that for collagen type 1, alpha 1 are located, are associated with a particular type of skin tumor called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSB) resulting from unregulated expression of growth factor (Kiuru-Kuhlefelt et al. 2001). Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for PDGFB (provided by RefSeq, Feb 2013). Rabbit anti Human PDGF-B antibody detects a band of 27 kDa. The antibody has been extensively validated for western blotting using whole cell lysates. |
