Western blot analysis of whole cell lysates prepared from HEK293 separately transfected with two unique siRNA duplexes against Prohibtin (1 & 2) or a scrambled siRNA (-) probed with Mouse anti Prohibtin antibody (VMA00284) followed by detection with HRP conjugated Goat anti Mouse IgG (1/10,000 STAR207P) and hFAB rhodamine anti-tubulin primary antibody (12004165) and visualized on the ChemiDoc MP with an 300 second (chemiluminescent channel) and 15 second (rhodamine channel) exposure.

Mouse anti Human prohibitin antibody recognizes prohibitin, also known as epididymis luminal protein 215, epididymis secretory sperm binding protein Li 54e.

The PHB gene is evolutionarily conserved. Encoded by this gene, prohibitin is proposed to play a role in human cellular senescence and tumor suppression. Antiproliferative activity is reported to be localized to the 3' UTR, which is proposed to function as a trans-acting regulatory RNA. Several pseudogenes of PHB have been identified. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013).
