Bio-Rad is a key supplier of reagents for poultry research, providing antibodies against important physiological targets and disease causing pathogens. Our range includes a strong representation of antibodies against chicken immunological targets, such as CD markers and immunoglobulins.
The complete avian collection also includes recombinant chicken cytokine proteins and antibodies against chicken cytoskeletal proteins, transcription factors, and neuronal markers. In addition, we offer several CD markers and immunoglobulins specific raised directly against duck antigens.
All of our antibodies are manufactured to the highest quality standards and are performance guaranteed for the applications listed on the detailed datasheets.
Our chicken cell surface marker collection includes antibodies to well known T cell markers like CD4 (MCA2164), CD8a (MCA2166), and CD28 (MCA5760) in a variety of formats for your convenience. We also offer ChT1 (MCA2168), a novel member of the immunoglobulin super family which plays an important role in early T cell development.
Other key markers include Bu-1a (MCA2170) expressed on B cells and a subset of macrophages, and chicken integrin CD41/61 (MCA2240) found on the surface of thrombocytes, the nucleated equivalent of mammalian platelets.
An important disease area for current avian research is the study of influenza, which can be investigated using our chicken and duck immune markers. Avian flu, or “bird flu”, was initially seen in wild birds, but has now become transmissible between species leading to serious outbreaks among domestic birds. The virus exists in several strains, with current research focused on the H5N1 subtype which mutates into a highly pathogenic version. As an aid to studying avian flu, we offer an ELISA sandwich pair, MCA2660 and MCA2661, which can be used for the capture and detection of H5N1 influenza virus.
