Rabbit anti PUMA antibody recognizes PUMA (p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis) also known as Bcl-2-binding component 3 or JFY-1. PUMA is a member of the Bcl-2 homology 3 (BH3)-only protein family whose expression is regulated by the well characterized p53 tumor suppressor protein. In response to stress and DNA damage, p53 binding results in PUMA transcription. PUMA acts as an apoptosis trigger via mitochondrial signaling and interaction with Bcl-xL, Bc-2 and other antiapoptotic proteins.
PUMA has been identified as a promising target for cancer therapies (Ming et al. 2006).
