Rabbit anti Cdk5 antibody detects human cyclin dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5), a proline-directed serine/threonine protein kinase that unlike most Cdks does not function in cell cycle control, and is not regulated by cyclins. Instead, it requires the association p35 or p39 for its kinase activity, resulting in a master regulator of neuronal functions, with roles in neuronal survival and migration, neurotransmitter release and axon guidance.

Cdk5 is ubiquitously expressed, but expression and activity is highest in post mitotic neurones, where p35 and p39 are highly expressed. Deregulation of this kinase is neurotoxic and might contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
