    • Rabbit anti Smac/Diablo antibody recognizes Diablo homolog, mitochondrial, also known as Direct IAP-binding protein with low pI, Second mitochondria-derived activator of caspase, Diablo or Smac. Smac is a 237 amino acid ~30 kDa mitochondrial protein bearing a 53 amino acid transit peptide at its N-terminus. Rabbit anti Smac/Diablo antibody binds to the C-terminal region of murine Smac/DIABLO.

Inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAP's) block cell death by caspase inhibition. X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) is a member of the IAP family. Smac/DIABLO is expressed in a variety of tissues and has been identified as a negative regulator of XIAP (Verhagen 2000).
