Mouse anti WWOX antibody recognizes WW domain-containing oxidoreductase, also known as FOR, SDR41C1, and WOX1.

WWOX is an adaptor protein with significant roles in physiology and homeostasis. WWOX contributes to repair of double strand breaks in DNA by non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) (Schrock et al. 2017). Deregulation of WWOX can lead to several severe pathological states. In particular, WWOX is relevant to neurodegeneration. Homozygous null mutation of WWOX leads to a range of neural diseases, metabolic disorders and death in newborn humans. The gene is also often downregulated in Alzheimer's disease (Liu et al. 2018). WWOX functions as a tumor suppressor, loss of WWOX has been found in various tumors including breast, colon, esophageal, gastric, lung, ovarian, and prostate cancers (Tanna and Aqeilan 2018). WWOX is also involved with resistance of cancer cells to radiation and cisplatin. Deficiency of WWOX has been associated with shorter overall survival times in cancer patients treated with radiation (Schrock et al. 2017).
