Mouse anti TUBG1 antibody recognizes tubulin gamma-1 chain, also known as TBG1 and GCP-1.

The gamma tubulin TUBG1 is a major part of the centrosome in mammalian cells, and is important for microtubule formation and cell cycle progression (Brock et al. 2018). The other gene that encodes gamma tubulin in mammals, TUBG2, is only expressed in preimplantation embryos and the brain, whereas TUBG1 appears to be ubiquitously expressed in mammalian cells (Ohashi et al. 2016). TUBG1 is also abundantly expressed in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, thalamus and hippocampus of the developing and mature human brain (Draberova et al. 2017). Variants in the gene encoding TUBG1 can cause tubulinopathies, characterised by a range of cortical malformations, intellectual disability and epilepsy (Ivanova et al. 2019).
