Rabbit anti Human SMAD4 antibody recognizes mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4, also known as DPC4, MADH4. SMAD4 is a tumor suppressor which acts as a shuttling protein between the nucleus and the cytoplasm and mediates the TGF-beta signaling pathway, suppressing epithelial cell growth (Ullah et al. 2018). Overexpression of SMAD4 increases apoptosis and suppresses cell proliferation. Accordingly, loss of SMAD4 is linked to various cancers, including those arising in the pancreas, colon, prostate, and bile duct (Chung et al. 2017). Several different SMAD4 isoforms have been found in various cancer types, particularly pancreatic cancer, and can compete against or help cancer cells (Ullah et al. 2018). Over 50% of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), one of the most fatal human cancers, involve inactivation of SMAD4 (Ahmed et al. 2017).
