| Mouse anti RPL14 antibody recognizes 60S ribosomal protein L14, also known as CAG-ISL 7. RPL14 encodes a component of the large ribosomal subunit (Huang et al. 2006). The small and large ribosomal subunits play different roles within protein translation. The small subunit decodes the genetic message, while the large subunit catalyzes the formation of peptide bonds (Gregory et al. 2019). Alteration of RPL14 has been identified in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas and has been suggested as an early marker of this cancer type (Huang et al. 2006). More generally, genetic abnormalities that affect ribosome biogenesis result in a range of clinical phenotypes, such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia. Acquired mutations in ribosome function have been broadly linked to human cancers (Narla and Ebert 2010). |
