Mouse anti PSMB2 antibody recognizes proteasome subunit beta type-2, also known as macropain subunit C7-I. PSMB2 is a component of the 20S proteasome, a large protein complex which has critical roles in regulating homeostasis by degrading targeted proteins (Latham et al. 2014). Proteins become tagged for destruction when they acquire a polymerized ubiquitin chain, shutting the protein to the proteasome. In this way, the proteasome is able to selectively degrade specific proteins. Through its ability to degrade a diverse range of tagged proteins, the proteasome plays a wide variety of roles in biological processes by rapid catalysis of biological reactions (Tanaka et al. 2009).
