Mouse anti NNMT antibody recognizes nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). NNMT is a cytosolic enzyme which catalyzes transfer of the methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to nicotinamide (NA). SAM is a methyl donor for histones, non-histone proteins, DNA, RNA, lipids and other metabolites, and the activity of NNMT regulates gene expression via altered histone methylation (Eckert et al. 2019). NNMT has been found to promote migration, invasion, proliferation and survival of cancer cells. Accordingly, overexpression of NNMT has been documented in a variety of cancers of the lung, liver, kidney, bladder, and colon (Ulanovskaya et al. 2013). In addition to cancers, NNMT overexpression has been linked to several metabolic disorders. It has been suggested as a therapeutic target for treatment of cancers and metabolic disorders (Gao et al. 2019).
