Immunoprecipitation of KARS from K562 whole cell lysate. The Input lane is 10% input; the KARS-IP lane is the immunoprecipitation with the KARS antibody (2.5 µg, VMA00877); the IgG-IP lane is the immunoprecipitation with Mouse monoclonal IgG (2.5 µg, MCA928). Mouse anti KARS antibody recognizes lysine--tRNA ligase, also known as lysyl-tRNA synthetase and LysRS.

tRNA synthetases are responsible for setting the genetic code during the first step of protein synthesis by specifically linking a single amino acid to a set of tRNA isoacceptors (Pang et al. 2014). The KARS gene encodes lysyl-tRNA synthetase, which catalyzes the attachment of a specific amino acid to its cognate tRNA in both the cytoplasm and mitochondria (Ardissone et al. 2018). Mutations in KARS have been asociated with various pathologies including autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss, congenital visual impairment and progressive microcephaly (Verrigni et al. 2017).
