Mouse anti H1F0 antibody recognizes histone H1.0, also known as H1-0. H1 linker histones are DNA-binding proteins involved with formation of higher-order chromatin structures, with epigenetic functions in DNA replication and repair, genome stability, and regulation of gene expression (Di Liegro et al. 2018). HIF0 is one of the variants of H1 but unlike replication-dependent H1 variants, H1F0 is expressed in dividing and non-dividing cells (Torres et al. 2016). H1F0 also differs from other histone H1 family members in the chromosomal location and organizing of the gene encoding it. The H1F0 variant is generally a lot shorter than other H1 variants (Kowalski et al. 2016). H1F0 has been found to bind to large numbers of proteins, suggesting an important role in protein-protein interactions beyond its functions in chromatic structure (Kalashnikova et al. 2013). Given that cancer development can be affected by epigenetic factors, it is unsurprising that histones are involved. Reversible silencing of H1F0 has been found to affect rhea differentiation state of cancer cells (Torres et al. 2016).
