EMD antibody | AB01/4H6
EMD is a ubiquitous inner nuclear membrane protein that contributes to genome organization, regulation of gene expression, and mechanical stress signaling (Essawy et al. 2019). However, the protein can also be found in outer membranes during interphase within mitosis (Dubińska-Magiera et al. 2019). Deregulation of EMD can play a role in malignant transformation, and the localization of emerin can be used to identify tumor cells that have nuclear shape instability (Reis-Sobreiro et al. 2018). Mutations in the EMD gene, most often leading to an absence of EMD, cause X-linked Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (X-EDMD) (Essawy et al. 2019). This disease is characterized by contractures of the elbow and Achilles tendons, progressive muscle wasting and cardiac conduction defects (Dubińska-Magiera et al. 2019).
