| Rabbit anti CD1a antibody recognizes T-cell surface glycoprotein CD1a, also known as T-cell surface antigen T6/Leu-6. CD1a belongs to the CD1 family of glycoproteins which present lipid antigens to T lymphocytes. On the cell surface, Cd1a can display a range of lipid antigens such as those derived from pollen and from bacteria. It can also present self lipid antigens enriched in the skin epidermis, such as fatty acid (Kim et al. 2018). CD1a is a well-known marker of Langerhans cells, a cell type that populates the epidermis during embryonic development and maintains themselves during adulthood independent of hematopoiesis (Al-amodi et al. 2018). Staining for CD1a is often used to identify an abnormal proliferation of Langerhans cells and contributes to the diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) (Pisapia et al. 2017). |
