Antibody Quality and Performance Guarantee
| Mouse anti BID antibody recognizes BH3-interacting domain death agonist. BID is a member of the BCL2 family, and plays pro-apoptotic roles within the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. Cleavage of BID by caspase-8 leads to permeabilization of the mitochondrial membrane, a process that initiates the caspase cascade. Non-apoptotic roles of BID include modulation of inflammatory signaling in astrocytes and modulation of the immunological profile in microglia and macrophages (Kinsella et al. 2018). Because of its apoptotic role, the expression level of BID in cancer cells is critical to their death or survival. Silencing BID makes cancer cells resistant to apoptosis, and overexpression can sensitize some cancer cell lines to apoptosis induced by anticancer agents (Orzechowska et al. 2015). Mimicry of BID has also been identified as a mechanism by which viruses can evade host cells (Choi et al. 2012). |
