Mouse anti ATP6V1E1 antibody recognizes V-type proton ATPase subunit E 1. ATP6V1E1 encodes the E1 subunit of the V-ATPase, a proton pump which couples ATP hydrolysis to active proton transport across membranes (Van Damme et al. 2017). The V-ATPase can acidify lysosomes/vacuoles, Golgi, and endosomes, and also functions in proton export from the cell. The complex is also important for multiple cellular processes including protein processing, endocytosis and autophagy (Hayek et al. 2019). Mutations in the gene encoding ATP6V1E1 cause autosomal-recessive Cutis Laxa, a condition characterized by redundant or wrinkly skin and elastic-fiber fragmentation (Van Damme et al. 2017).
