Rabbit anti Human acetyl CoA carboxylase 1 (pSer79) antibody recognizes acetyl CoA carboxylase 1, also known as ACC1, ACACA, when phosphorylated at serine 79. Acetyl CoA carboxylase 1 is a cytosolic kinase which is crucially involved with fatty acid synthesis. Controlling lipid synthesis by ACC1 inhibition has been suggested for treatment of metabolic diseases such as obesity or diabetes. ACC1 has also been found to be upregulated in various cancer types (Glatzel et al. 2018), and may be involved with development and progression of tumors. Expression levels of ACC1 are strongly associated with prognosis of patients with liver cancer (Ye et al. 2019). AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is able to phosphorylate ACC1 at Ser79, inhibiting its function (Lepropre et al. 2018).
