    • Human anti Sm-4TOR antibody, clone 4644 recognizes the Schistosoma mansoni Tetraspanning Orphan Receptor (Sm-4TOR), a 55kDa protein found on the tegumental surface of S.mansoni cercariae.

      S.mansoni is one of 5 species of parasitic worm responsible for causing the water borne disease, schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia) in humans. S.mansoni has a complex life cycle involving a primary (human) and intermediate (water snail) host.

      Research has demonstrated that the S.mansoni TOR consists of 4 exons and is expressed at various developmental stages of S.mansoni however highest expression is at the cercariae (larval stage). It has therefore been hypothosized that as it is the larval stage (cercariae) of S.mansoni which enters its human host through the skin, that Sm-4TOR expression may confer protection against complement attack from the hosts immune defence.

      A bivalent human recombinant Fab selected from the HuCAL® GOLD phage display library. Expressed in E. coli and purified using NiNTA affinity chromatography. This Fab fragment is dimerized via a helix-turn-helix motif. The antibody is tagged with a myc-tag (EQKLISEEDL) and a his-tag (HHHHHH) at the C-terminus of the anti-body heavy chain.
