Goat anti Human tau antibody recognizes the N-terminal region of human Microtubule-associated protein tau, also known as tau, Neurofibrillary tangle protein or Paired helical filament-tau. Tau is a a ~50-70 kDa heterogeneous group of proteins that are involved in microtubule assembly. In healthy brain tissue tau is localized to the axons of neurons.
Tau has been associated with some neurological disease states including Alzheimer's disease where it localizes to neurofibrillary tangles (Goedert et al. 1989).
Several isoforms of human tau can be generated by alternative splicing, Goat anti Human tau antibody is expected to recognize all isoforms with the possible exception of isoform-3 which demonstrates multiple residue changes within the region of the immunizing peptide.

Antisera to human Tau were raised by repeated immunisations of goats with highly purified antigen.
Synthetic peptide MAEPRQEFEVMEDHAG corresponding to amino acids 1-16 of human Tau.

This product should be stored undiluted.
Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.

Immunohistology - Paraffin(1)
This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections.Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose.
Where this antibody has not been tested for use in a particular technique this does not necessarily exclude its use in such procedures. Suggested working dilutions are given as a guide only. It is recommended that the user titrates the antibody for use in their own system using appropriate negative/positive controls.
