    • Goat anti Human POFUT1 antibody recognises human GDP-fucose protein O-fucosyltransferase 1, also known as Peptide-O-fucosyltransferase 1 or Protein O-fucosyltransferase 1, encoded by the POFUT1 gene. GDP-fucose protein O-fucosyltransferase 1 is a 362 amino acid ~45 kDa inverting glycosyltransferase and member of the glycosyltransferase 68 family, localized to the endoplasmic reticulum where it plays a vital role in post-translational modification and ligand-induced receptor signaling, during the Notch signaling pathway.

The Notch signaling pathway is an evolutionarily conserved pathway in multicellular organisms, vital for cell-cell communication. It is important during developmental and physiological processes, including regulation of cell fate decisions during neuronal, cardiac and endocrine development, stem cell hematopoiesis, thymic T cell development, and both tumor progression and suppression. POFUT1 acts as the catalyzing enzyme for the attachment of fucose sugars in O- glycosidic linkage to conserved serine or threonine residues, and especially those found in the epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeats of the extracellular domain in Notch proteins.

Mutation of the POFUT1 gene can result in presentation of Dowling-Degos disease 2 (DDD2) , an autosomal genodermatosis characterized by abnormal flexural reticular pigmentation (Li et al. 2013).
