Catenin Beta Antibody

Catenin Beta Antibody gallery image 1

Western blot analysis of A431 whole cell lysates probed with Rabbit anti catenin beta

Catenin Beta Antibody gallery image 2

HEK293 (lane 2) cell lysate was run under reducing conditions on SDS PAGE and transferred to a PVDF membrane. Precision Plus ProteinTM Prestained Standards were run in lane 1. Rabbit anti catenin beta (AHP2418) was used as the primary antibody at a dilution of 1/400 in lane 2. As secondary detection reagent HRP conjugated goat anti rabbit IgG (STAR208P) was used at 1/10,000. Visualization was carried out using the ChemiDocTMMP Imaging System with automatic exposure

    • Rabbit anti catenin beta antibody recognizes catenin beta, also known as beta-catenin. Catenin beta is part of a complex of proteins that constitute adherens junctions (AJs). AJs are necessary for the creation and maintenance of epithelial cell layers by regulating cell growth and adhesion between cells. Catenin beta also anchors the actin cytoskeleton and may be responsible for transmitting the contact inhibition signal that causes cells to stop dividing once the epithelial sheet is complete.

Catenin beta binds to the product of the APC gene, which is mutated in adenomatous polyposis of the colon. Mutations in catenin beta are a cause of colorectal cancer, pilomatrixoma (PTR), medulloblastoma (MDB) and ovarian cancer. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for catenin beta (provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009).
