Rabbit anti Human Bik antibody recognizes the N-terminal (NT) region of Bcl-2-interacting killer (Bik) also known as natural born killer (Nbk). Bik is a Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3)-only protein of ~18 kDa which requires the BAX gene for activation. Bik forms heterodimers with various antiapoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL, inhibiting their antiapoptotic function. This can result in the release of Ca2+ and cytochrome C into the cytosol, leading to apoptosis.

Loss of Bik is a common feature of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and is thought to act as a renal tissue-specific tumour suppressor gene.

This product is shipped at ambient temperature. It is recommended to aliquot and store at -20°C on receipt. When thawed, aliquot the sample as needed. Keep aliquots at 2-8°C for short term use (up to 4 weeks) and store the remaining aliquots at -20°C.

Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.

This product has been reported to work in the following applications. This information is derived from testing within our laboratories, peer-reviewed publications or personal communications from the originators.
