    • Mouse anti Human beta 2 Microglobulin antibody, clone 3F9-2C2 recognizes native human beta 2 microglobulin, a 119 amino acid pro-peptide cleaved of it's signal peptide to yield the 99 amino acid mature form of ~12 kDa with a pI of 5.6, containing a single C1 type Ig-like domain with multiple potentilal N-glycosylation sites. β2 microglobulin is a component of MHC class I system forming heterodimers with the α chain of MHC class I molecules and CD1. MHC Class I - β2 microglobulin heterodimers are responsible for presentation of peptide antigens to the immune system and are which present on all nucleated cells. β2 microglobulin is also involved in immunoglobulin transport (Story et al. 1994) and iron metabolism (Santos et al. 1996).

      Levels of beta 2 microglobulin can be used to assess renal function in kidney transplant recipients where it may take on a fibrillar multimeric form contributing to amyloidosis in chronic renal dialysis patients (Gorevic et al. 1985) . It has been suggested that this protein can be used as a prognostic marker for HIV infection (Franzetti et al. 1988). β2 microglobulin may also be a marker for the progression of multiple myeloma (Rossi et al. 2010).

      Mouse anti Human β2 microglobulin antibody, clone 3F9-2C2 havs been used successfully for the detection of β2 microglobulin in human tissues and celll lines using both immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.
