Goat anti Human Alpha 1 Antitrypsin antibody recognizes human alpha 1 antitrypsin, also known as Alpha-1 protease inhibitor, Alpha-1-antiproteinase or Serpin A1 encoded by the SERPINA1 gene. Alpha 1 antitrypsin is a 394 amino acid endoplasmic reticular associated and secreted glycoprotein with serine protease inhibitor activity, synthesized by the liver with elastase as a primary target. Mutation of the SERPINA1 gene leads to development of Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (A1ATD) manifesting with pulmonary emphysema and liver disease, due to the loss of inhibition of neutrophil elastase activity (Graham et al. 1990).
